Birth of a Platform

Don't get me wrong I love the feel of dirt, gritty sand between your toes, the dust around your sweaty brow, but sometimes you need a base...a defined area of luxury, a place to lie down and feel safe..and so the first platform on" Umtali "Warrumbungles farm was birthed with the help and generosity of friends.

We toiled for almost 3 days to produce this beautiful timber structure, and that's not counting all the planning around what timber to use/buy/mill and the lengthy articulated design and planning followed by hauling the timber out there from Taree to the Farm from Hi-way to dirt to 4x4 tracks. Our poor vehicles...it was a big ask and the Triton at one point [Merriwa] put her hand up and said she was not happy, but we made it.

You see this is not just a story about a simple deck, its rather a larger story of the power of friendship and overcoming obstacles and not giving up.

I had over conversation mentioned to Ross & Shari we had visions of tent platforms for camping and yoga/breath-work and we were heading out to build a prototype in September. The dream was something simple hewn from local timber but we were time poor and on a budget, and these wonderful human beings jumped in with both feet to help-out and pass their experience on from previous deck builds.

Luckily, because a pharmacist and naturopath with limited building experience would probably have created a treehouse with counselling and advice given from lofty heights ,rather than a grounded solid structure to connect us with nature!

We had alot of laughs, great food, a few first-aid moments, some cold and hot showers and a late night dance-off around the campfire with our wonderful hosts Sarah & Yuri who provided the Boom Box.

Our mission was to scope out some walking tracks at the Warrumbungle National Park we hadn't had the opportunity to hike on previous visits and luckily we scored two brilliant days of awesome hiking weather.

And so the dream was turned into reality and the platform for the growth of Farmacy Outdoors has begun, I get a warm glow inside knowing others will appreciate and benefit from these simple wooden structures. Everything needs a base to grow from, everyone needs friendship to help them achieve their dreams...we are very grateful and blessed.

Like a fellow South African I admire Boyd Varty, who once wrote " I don't know where I'm going, but I know exactly how to get there " I watch the events unfold around the birth of this business, the synchronicity of small daily events that contribute to the bigger picture [we had the opportunity to practice our Wilderness First Aid training twice on this trip and meet new people] and the exciting opportunities that arise if you allow them to present...just be present...nature alllows you to be aware and accept. I am reminded to stop being comparative [ the dynamic constructed by society ] eg: reasons why the platform is not enough, to a rather more healthy relational state of mind where I can reflect on how much we have achieved together and how much clients and friends will love the simplicity of this wonderful structure for a session of breath-work under a Dark Sky night or a beautiful sunrise Yoga movement session.

The story of these past few days will stay with us for many years and be told around many campfires, surely this is reason for our purpose. We hope you get a chance to hear these stories on this wonderful piece of land too.
